(first verse only)
Guide me, O thou great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but thou art mighty. Hold me with thy powerful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more;
Feed me till I want no more.
Prayer for God’s Guidance
Luke 11:37-41 Common English Bible Translation
While Jesus was speaking, a Pharisee invited him to share a meal with him, so Jesus went and took his place at the table. When the Pharisee saw that Jesus didn’t ritually purify his hands by washing before the meal, he was astonished. The Lord said to him, “Now, you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and platter, but your insides are stuffed with greed and wickedness. Foolish people! Didn’t the one who made the outside also make the inside? Therefore, give to those in need from the core of who you are and you will be clean all over. (Question: How do you handle people being judgmental?)
Special Music
Luke 11:42-46
“How terrible for you Pharisees! You give a tenth of your mint, rue, and garden herbs of all kinds, while neglecting justice and love for God. These you ought to have done without neglecting the others. “How terrible for you Pharisees! You love the most prominent seats in the synagogues and respectful greetings in the marketplaces. “How terrible for you! You are like unmarked graves, and people walk on them without recognizing it.” One of the legal experts responded, “Teacher, when you say these things, you are insulting us too.” Jesus said, “How terrible for you legal experts too! You load people down with impossible burdens and you refuse to lift a single finger to help them. (Question: What burdens have people placed upon you and what burdens might you have unintentionally placed upon others?)
Luke 10:1-4
After these things, the Lord commissioned seventy-two others and sent them on ahead in pairs to every city and place he was about to go. He said to them, “The harvest is bigger than you can imagine, but there are few workers. Therefore, plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out workers for his harvest. Go! Be warned, though, that I’m sending you out as lambs among wolves. Carry no wallet, no bag, and no sandals. Don’t even greet anyone along the way. (Question: How do you cultivate peace in your life?)
Hymn We Wait the Peaceful Kingdom (In Person Only)
Luke 10:5-7
Whenever you enter a house, first say, ‘May peace be on this house.’ If anyone there shares God’s peace, then your peace will rest on that person. If not, your blessing will return to you. Remain in this house, eating and drinking whatever they set before you, for workers deserve their pay. Don’t move from house to house. (Question: How do you share peace with others?)
Luke 10:8-12
Whenever you enter a city and its people welcome you, eat what they set before you. Heal the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘God’s kingdom has come upon you.’ Whenever you enter a city and the people don’t welcome you, go out into the streets and say, ‘As a complaint against you, we brush off the dust of your city that has collected on our feet. But know this” God’s kingdom has come to you.’ I assure you that Sodom will be better off on Judgment Day than that city. (Question: How do you hope your life will impact others?)
Hymn I Need Thee Every Hour (In Person Only)
Reflection Together (In Person Only)
Offering Ourselves to God
During this time let us reflect upon the words from the Brief Statement of Faith
We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel.
Hymn Make Me a Channel of Your Peace (In Person Only)
Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom and the power
and the glory, forever. Amen
Benediction
Closing Hymn 623 I’ve Got Peace like a River (In Person Only)
(first verse only)
I’ve got peace like a river; I’ve got peace like a river;
I’ve got peace like a river, in my soul.
I’ve got peace like river; I’ve got peace like a river;
I’ve got peace like a river, in my soul.
