Theme: Dirty Hands, Intimate God

Hymn   God, You Spin the Whirling Planets  (In Person Only)

Welcome

Prayer for God’s Presence

Genesis 2:4b-7 Common English Bible Translation

4b On the day the Lord God made earth and sky— before any wild plants appeared on the earth, and before any field crops grew, because the Lord God hadn’t yet sent rain on the earth and there was still no human being[c] to farm the fertile land, though a stream rose from the earth and watered all of the fertile land— the Lord God formed the human[d] from the topsoil of the fertile land[e] and blew life’s breath into his nostrils. The human came to life.

John 9:1-7

As Jesus walked along, he saw a man who was blind from birth. Jesus’ disciples asked, “Rabbi, who sinned so that he was born blind, this man or his parents?” Jesus answered, “Neither he nor his parents. This happened so that God’s mighty works might be displayed in him. While it’s daytime, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” After he said this, he spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and smeared the mud on the man’s eyes. Jesus said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (this word means sent). So the man went away and washed. When he returned, he could see.

Reflection Together (In Person Only)

Offering Ourselves to God

During this time let us reflect upon an excerpt from the Confession of 1967 (edited for modern language).

God’s sovereign love is a mystery beyond the reach of the human mind. Human  thought  ascribes  to God superlatives of power, wisdom, and goodness. But God reveals love in Jesus Christ by showing power in  the  form  of  a  servant, wisdom  in the folly of the cross, and goodness in receiving sinful humanity. The power of God’s love  in  Christ  to  transform the world discloses that the Redeemer is the  Lord  and  Creator  who made all things to serve the purpose of God’s love.

Hymn  Lord, the Light of Your Love Is Shining  (In Person Only)

Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us;

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil

For thine is the kingdom and the power

and the glory, forever.  Amen

Benediction
