Santa is a metaphor that points us towards a benevolent God. When we think of Santa as one who gives to all, who spends time carefully planning good things for others, and inspires others to live a generous life, these things connect us back to the teachings of Jesus. This image of Santa is based off of St. Nicholas who lived in the 4th century in what is modern day Turkey. St. Nicholas was known as one who was generous and kind.
This is an opportunity to recognize the connection that Santa has to St. Nicholas, and ultimately to celebrate with great anticipation the birth of Christ who challenges us to live generously and with kindness.
